A Very Warm Welcome to Bolton School's Digital Archive

Bolton School is one of the oldest schools in Lancashire. The origins of the Boys' School can be traced back to at least 1516 and the Girls' School was established in 1877. On 1 April 1915, the Bolton School Foundation formally came into existence after Sir William Hesketh Lever, the first Viscount Leverhulme, gave a generous joint endowment to the High School for Girls and the Bolton Grammar School for Boys on condition that the two should be equal partners known as Bolton School (Boys' and Girls' Divisions).

This online archive provides access to every copy of The Boltonian, the boys' magazine, which was first printed in May 1899 and every edition of the girls' Magazine, which was first printed in April 1893. Both offer reviews of each academic year and a fascinating insight into the School's past.

The online editions are open to the School community. You can access them by clicking the green 'Enter Archive' button above.
